Another Gross Scam
I don’t often watch television but often I run across infomercials. I’ve run across this particular one where you put these pads on the bottom of your feet and you draw out the toxins in your body. This concept isn’t really too fake considering how much blood runs through your legs and the pads of your feet. Even in the hospital they will pump the bottom of your feet if you are bed bound for too long. However this concept always felt wrong to me. Drawing out toxins out from the bottom of you feet… I hardly believe you can sweet out any significant amount of toxins in a steam bath.
Over at Gizmodo they posted an article from NPR proving my thoughts of it being a scam. Actually now the concept grosses me out even more. I like a clean bed so bringing a dirt pad to bed freaks me out a little.
It turns out the Kinoki product is activated by either heat or moisture—the pads turned into the dirty “used” state even when held over a steaming pot of harmless water! Our bodies have a pretty efficient ways to get rid of metabolic waste; usually, you can even read the paper while it happens.
